Player's Guide – how to play Tormya
New to Tormya? Here is everything you need for your first days. The same guide is always available in the game – press F1.
Tip: every window can be moved by dragging its title bar (the chat by the dots in its corner, where you can also resize it). Press F1 to change the interface size or reset the window layout.
First steps
1. Talk to the priest in the temple (type “hi”): he heals you, grants you citizenship of the town and gives you your first quest.
2. A ! shines above an NPC with a quest, and a ? when you can hand it in. Progress is shown in the journal (J) and on the right of the screen.
3. Training dummies stand in the barracks next to the temple – hit them and your weapon and shielding skills grow without any risk.
4. You will find a merchant at the market (type “trade”): sell your loot and buy health and mana potions.
5. Every day you get 3 daily tasks (hunts). Complete them day after day – a streak increases the reward.
6. Keep gold and items in the bank and the depot – every town has them and they are safe when you die.
Eat when your satiety runs low – a well-fed character regenerates health and mana faster.
Combat
Click a monster or press Tab to attack it. Your character strikes with its weapon on its own while you cast spells and drink potions (bar 1-9).
You will find your spells in the spellbook (L). Drag them to the bar or type their words in the chat.
Chain spells (such as Chain Lightning) jump from your target to nearby enemies – each jump is a little weaker.
Bosses warn you before a powerful attack – a rune circle flares under them and the ground around you glows red: get off it quickly.
Skills grow with use: sword fighting by fighting with a sword, shielding by taking blows, magic level by spending mana.
Loot comes in rarities: common, magic, rare, epic and legendary – the rarer, the more bonuses.
When you die you return to the temple and lose 8% of your experience, a little skill progress and sometimes items. In towns (protection zones) nobody can attack you.
Blessing of the Dawn – say "hi" and then "bless" to the priest in any temple. For 2000 gold (more from level 31 on, at most 20,000) your next death costs only half the experience and skill, and you keep all your belongings. The blessing fades when you die – a golden icon under your portrait shows that you are blessed. It does not protect players with a red skull, and hardcore heroes cannot be blessed.
Hardcore mode (chosen when creating a character): +10% experience, but death is permanent.
Battle list (C) – monsters and players around you, closest first, with a portrait and their health. Click one to attack it (players: according to your Secure/PvP mode), right-click a player for the menu.
Hunt analyzer (X) – experience, loot and used potions and runes per hour, plus the balance of your hunt and every monster you defeated. "Reset" starts a new session.
Death recap – after a death a window shows who dealt how much damage to you in the last seconds.
Buffs with timers – haste, mana shield and curse show their remaining time on the icons under your portrait.
World
Weather – sometimes it rains (the ground gets wet and glistens), snow falls in the snowy lands, and it never rains in the desert. The weather is the same for every player.
Day and night – a day in the game lasts 2 hours and is the same for everyone. The time is shown under the minimap. At night your character carries a lantern.
Map (M) – a painted map of the world with towns and places of interest. Click a place to read about it.
Travel – the coachman in town takes you by coach to other towns, and the captain in the harbour sails to the islands and to the east.
Dungeons – stone portals in towns lead to dungeons with a boss. Every player gets their own loot, and each dungeon rewards you once every 20 hours.
Raids – from time to time monsters attack a town. The announcement comes 3 minutes earlier – gather a party (P) and defend the town!
Market (N) – put an item up for sale or buy from other players. You get paid even when you are offline.
Trading – right-click a player next to you and choose "Trade". Drag items from your backpack into the trade window; they change hands only when both of you press "Accept".
Houses – from level 8 you can rent one of the 48 houses in the towns. Walk into a free house (a message tells you its size and weekly rent) and type /house buy. Items you put down in your house never disappear, and only you and your guests can enter: /house invite NAME, /house kick NAME. Pay the rent with /house pay (up to 4 weeks ahead) – if it runs out, the house goes back to the town and your belongings wait for you in your depot.
Map markers – right-click the world map (M) or the minimap to add your own marker with a name and colour. It shows on both maps.
Walking by map – left-click the minimap or the world map (M) and your character walks there by itself, even far away. WASD or Esc stops the walk.
Progress
Talents (T) – your first point at level 10, then one every 3 levels. Three paths for every vocation.
Professions (O) – mine ore with a pickaxe, gather herbs, fish with a rod (click the water), and craft weapons and potions at the anvil and the cauldron.
Mounts (R, U) – buy a horse from the coachman; rarer mounts come from dungeons and achievements. R – ride, U – stable.
Pets – rare drops from monsters. They follow you on your travels (stable U).
Wardrobe (Y) – outfits for every vocation: buy them from the armorer in the capital or earn them with 250 achievement points.
Achievements (H) and season (V) – everything you do earns achievement points and season points with rewards at every level.
Bestiary (I) – every monster with a kill counter. The first kill reveals its health and experience, a quarter of the goal reveals its loot, and a completed entry gives you +5% damage against that monster.
Friends (Z) – add friends by name (or right-click a player) and you will see when they log in.
Boosted creature – every day one monster gives double experience and drops loot more often. Its portrait is in the corner of the minimap; /boosted tells you which one it is.
Settings (F2) – graphics quality, view distance, frame rate limit, the low health warning and your own key bindings for every action.
